Frequently Asked Questions

Healthcare can come with a lot of questions. We want getting started at Coulee Health to feel simple.

Find answers about appointments, insurance, our gym, birth + midwifery care, recovery services, and more below.

Do I need a referral to come to Coulee Health?

No. You can reach out or schedule directly with our team. If you’re unsure which provider or service is right for you, contact us and we’ll help you determine the best place to start.

Do I have to be in pain to come to Coulee Health?

Not at all. We work with people across the spectrum. From pain and injury to rehabilitation, pregnancy and postpartum care, strength, athletic performance, recovery, and maintaining the ability to do the things they love.

I’m not sure what type of appointment I need. What should I book?

That’s okay. You don’t have to figure it out alone. Tell us what you’re experiencing and what you’d like to get back to doing, and our team can help guide you toward the appropriate provider or service.

How do I schedule an appointment?

Appointments can be booked online through our scheduling system or by calling our office. If you have questions before booking, a Discovery Call with one of our doctors would be best! You call the office at 608-612-0777.

Do you accept insurance?

We are in-network with several insurance companies, and we can check your benefits for you as a complimentary service, or you can call your insurance company to better understand your benefits. Due to the increase in high-deductible programs, many people are surprised to find they end up saving money by paying the Time-of-Service rate rather than billing their insurance. We can help you determine what is best, but we unfortunately never get the full picture of what the insurance company will do until the care has been billed.

Our model allows our providers to make recommendations based on what makes sense for you, not what an insurance plan dictates. It also gives us the flexibility to spend time addressing the bigger picture and create an individualized plan for your goals.

Can I use my HSA or FSA?

Eligible healthcare services may be payable using HSA or FSA funds depending on your plan. We recommend checking with your plan administrator for specific eligibility.

Can I submit my visits to insurance myself?

Absolutely!

How much does an appointment cost?

Pricing varies depending on the service and type of appointment. Current pricing is available when booking, or you can contact us with questions before scheduling.

Can I use insurance to pay for my membership?

What is included with the gym membership?

Do I need to be a chiropractic patient to use the gym?

No. You can come to the gym specifically for rehabilitation, strength, or performance, even if you aren’t currently receiving chiropractic care.

Is the gym a traditional gym?

Not exactly. This isn’t a space where you’re handed a membership and left to figure things out on your own. Our coaches provide individualized programming and work alongside our other providers, helping bridge the gap between rehabilitation and long-term strength and performance.

How do I get started?

You’ll begin with a 1:1 assessment with a coach to discuss your goals, movement, pain or injury history, and what you want to accomplish. From there, you’ll work through additional 1:1 sessions so your coach can assess progress and determine when you’re ready to increase loading and strength training.

What happens after my 1:1 sessions?

When you’re ready, you have the option to transition into our small-group training. You’ll continue to receive individualized programming based on your personal goals, reassessed each month, all while still having a low coach to member ratio to guide your sessions and progress.

How often can I train?

Depending on your program and membership, you may train multiple times per week. Your coach will help determine a schedule that makes sense for your goals.

Can I come here specifically for rehab?

Yes. Some people start with us because something hurts. Others come because they want to become stronger or perform better. The goal is ultimately the same: build a body that can handle what you ask of it.

Can I use the gym just for rehab and not become a member?

Absolutely! Although we think you’ll love the programming so much, you’ll want to stick around. This isn’t about just getting past one injury, it’s about continuously getting stronger and healthier, no matter your season of life.

When should I reach out if I am pregnant?

You can reach out as soon as you know you’re pregnant, or even while considering your options. Connecting early gives you time to learn about the model of care, ask questions, and determine whether it feels like the right fit for your family.

If I started prenatal care elsewhere, but then decided I wanted to explore Coulee Health, how would that impact my experience?

You can transfer care at any time as long as you are a candidate for community birth. Late transfer to care is as much of an investment in time and resources for you and the midwives as we work hard to develop strong relationships no matter what point you enter our care. If you have any questions specifically, please don’t hesitate to schedule a Midwifery Consultation.

Do you offer doula support?

We love doulas! While our midwives do not offer doula support themselves we would be happy to point you to a list of local doulas we know and love.

Email info@couleehealth.com

Subject: Doula List

Body: Ask for the local list of doulas. And on that note, yes, we absolutely recommend doulas for home and birth center births.

How does payment work?

Your initial non- refundable deposit is due at your first midwifery visit. The remainder is due by 36 weeks. Payment is preferred via cash or check (HSA are usually happy to mail a check even if you typically use card). Card is accepted with a 3.5% processing fee.

Do you accept insurance?

The only insurance we are in network with is Badgercare. You will need an HMO exemption that you can email info@couleehealth.com Subject: Badgercare Exemption and ask for exemption instructions. Other insurances would be considered out of network and we are happy to provide contact information for an insurance biller to help you with that process. Insurance or not, your out-of-pocket fee is due by 36 weeks.

What is included in the birth package?

Prenatal care through the first 6 weeks postpartum with the exception of ultrasound, some labs, rhogam, and the birth assistant fee. There is a much more detailed document outlining the specifics you will receive at your Midwifery Consult.

What if I go into labor while the clinic is open? Will I still have privacy?

Absolutely. You will enter the back door to the birth center area and Kyle and Erica have learned far more than they ever imagined about sound proofing. Both birth rooms are sound proofed and tried and true.

Can I see Dr. Erica if I don’t want to use the birth center?

Do you offer prenatal and/or postpartum care aside from the birth center?

You can absolutely receive prenatal and postpartum care from the midwifery team and still have a hospital birth. This would be best to discuss in a consult and specific pricing would be provided.

Who can use the birth center?

BYOM, any of the local midwives can utilize the birth center. It’s important that you have your ideal team and your ideal location.

Am I a good candidate for a home or birth center birth?

What types of bodywork do you offer?

Our approach may incorporate massage, myofascial work, craniosacral therapy, abdominal work, Thai techniques, and other hands-on methods depending on your needs.

Do you offer deep tissue massage?

Rather than chasing intensity or assuming deeper pressure equals better results, our bodywork is individualized to what your body actually needs. The goal is effective treatment, not simply the strongest pressure possible.

Do I need to be a patient to use recovery services?

In order to use the services, you would need to setup an account within our system so we could schedule your service / appointment. As always, if you have questions, please call and we will assist!

What recovery services are available?

Services include PEMF, sauna, cold plunge, shockwave, dry needling, and red-light therapy, laser, and air relaxation/compression.

How do I know which recovery service I need?

You don’t need to diagnose yourself. If you aren’t sure which option makes sense for your goals, reach out and our team can help guide you.

Still have questions?

You don’t need to have everything figured out before getting started. Tell us what’s going on, what you’re hoping to accomplish, or simply what you’re unsure about. We’ll help you find the right step.
